Consultations

Here at OpenMigration our focus is on delivering high-quality open source solutions to suit your particular needs, and perhaps the most critical part of doing that is understanding exactly what your needs are. To help you do so, we offer the opportuninity to work with members of our team to determine how F/OSS might benefit you, and to develop specific action plans and implementation scenarios that ensure you can make the best decisions for your business.
We promise that in addition to providing detailed and useful technical advice, our consultants will conform to the strictist of ethical standards, with a zero-tolerance policy for breaches of privacy, confidentiality, or trust. If a competing solution or service suits you best, we promise to act in your interest rather than ours.
We also promise not to charge what we can, but what we must. Too often we find that the scarcity of technical knowledge leads technical businesses into the position of charging outrageous sums for basic services. We believe that this is deeply unethical, and to help ensure that it never happens at OpenMigration, we guarentee that any on-site consultation of less than an hour including travel time is free.

Installation and Configuration

We will install and custom configure any piece of software or hardware that we recommend. In addition, we also offer off-business-hours hardware and software installation, and in some instances offsite software configuration. We ask you to note the following before requesting installation support:
  • To ensure that we can provide the level of service you require, we prefer that all installations are preceeded by a consultation.
We do not guarentee that a system installed without a consultation will meet your needs.
  • We do not install proprietary or illegal software, or software which is against the interests of its users.
We cannot for legal reasons install Microsoft Windows or Office, mp3 or DVD codecs, or any number of other products which are illegal to use or distribute under U.S. law. We do not install viruses, adware, or malware of any kind.
  • If during installation or configuration of your systems we encounter child pornography, we are compelled by federal law to report that fact to the appropriate authorities. It is in this situation, and only in this situation that we will ever divulge the contents or nature of any system we encounter.

Training

We offer a number of training courses, ranging from hour-long one-on-one sessions to multiday group seminars. Because they are personalized lessons, they are tailored to match the technical level of the audience, and can be applied onsite, maximizing the effectiveness of the lesson. Our courses are mostly focused on practical, useable knowledge, and on bringing the participants up to a level of comfort and familiarity quickly, while providing groundwork for more advanced courses.
Some of the courses planned for 2008 include:
  • Introduction to the Linux Desktop
  • Linux on the Server
  • Fundamentals of Linux System Administration
  • From Microsoft Office to OpenOffice
  • From Outlook to Evolution
  • Practical Network Security
Of course, personalized and small-group lessons can easily be made to suit your unique needs, and we encourage you to contact us if you have any questions or comments.

Support

One of our major functions at OpenMigration is to ensure that if you encounter problems with your systems, there is somebody in the area to help fix the problem quickly. Towards that end, we offer two different standard support plans to help meet your needs best- hourly and fixed term. Hourly rate support has no initial fee, while fixed term support guarentees service in a timely manner for a period of weeks or months, and is paid for in advance.
In addition to supporting systems we install, we also offer general support for a number of F/OSS projects and their attendant hardware. We do not support proprietary systems and have no intention of doing so in the future, however, we will help establish interoperability on an as-needed basis.
